Our construction of Lithgow Hungry Jacks was a massive success for the client thanks to the ability of our team to expertly manage three key challengers – a high level of detail, significant technical difficulty and a pressing deadline.
In addition to the restaurant, construction encompassed a drive-thru lane, landscaping and associated ground works, including retaining walls, parking and stormwater filtration. With effective coordination, consultation and communication at every stage, Hines Constructions delivered a high-quality project, and the store was opened by the required date.
Located on a previously demolished block, the earthworks presented the first major problem due to the gradient of the land, requiring quick and detailed programming of all retaining walls to allow for construction. We uncovered a rock bed during excavation, which posed the challenge of slowing down progress and with the client’s deadline critical, this required a detailed re-evaluation in order to overlap tasks and overcome any delays.
On this cramped and steep site, deliveries had to be carefully coordinated to ensure entry for vehicles, without affecting local traffic. We partnered with traffic control and the RMS for the construction of a new crossover off the Great Western Highway, with revised line markings. These works were carefully planned and coordinated, with minimal impact on highway traffic.
The restaurant has a high level of detail across multiple wall finishes and thicknesses, which required constant review, consideration and set-out prior to installation, to execute the flush detailing and desired appearance.
With numerous stakeholders reviewing the construction during the final critical phases, adjustments and changes were required at short notice to ensure customer satisfaction. There were almost daily changes made on-site by the client during the final weeks, but with our excellent team in control at every stage, all contractors and sub-contractors were able to work through the changes with no time impacts. We executed a high-quality project for the client, their staff and future customers.
